Solar Home Tour
The Fairview home of Paul and Elena Westbrook will be part of the American Solar Energy Society National (ASES) Solar Tour from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, October 3. Tours of the home, located at 440 Lakewood Drive, will last about 50 minutes and will begin at 30-minute intervals during the tour schedule. Participation is free and open to the public. Breakfast with the Mayor
Start your day with a healthy conversation about Fairview during Breakfast with the Mayor at 8:30 a.m. Friday, October 16, at Heritage Ranch, 465 Scenic Ranch Circle.
Halloween-Themed Events
The Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary, 1 Nature Place, in McKinney, is holding two Halloween-Themed special events: one for families and another for adults 21 and older.
Fright at the Museum is a new spine-tingling adults-only evening featuring a viewing of the classic movie “Halloween” at the Heard’s amphitheater under the stars, a mini trick-or-treat trail before the movie and a haunted forest experience after the film. The frightfully fun event starts at 6 p.m. October 16. Tickets ($39 per person) include two complimentary beverages, with choices ranging between beer, wine, soda and water. A limited number of tickets are available.
The family-friendly Halloween at the Heard will feature trick-or-treat along the eerie Dinosaurs Alive! animatronic dinosaurs trail and a viewing of “How to Train Your Dragon” in the amphitheater. The fun starts at 6 p.m. October 17. Ticket prices vary by age, and Heard members qualify for $5 off each ticket:
Adults: $16
Children ages 3-12 and adults ages 60 and older: $12
Children ages 2 and younger: free
Note: The Heard Museum will close at 3 p.m. on October 16 and 17 to prepare for the events.
